We'd love to replace or repair your windshield whenever you need us to, but here are some tips to help you keep your wildshield in good shape longer.
Use a Windshield Cover A cover can help prevent frost and ice buildup, and can also protect your windshield from leaves and debris.
Clean Your Windshield Your windshield needs cleaning at least once or twice a week to remove dirt and chemicals from the road.
Check for Chips and Cracks Inspect your windshield for chips and cracks regularly, and get them repaired at Cornerstone Auto Glass as soon as possible. Cold weather can cause existing chips and cracks to spread.
Use a Proper Scraper Broken or improvised scrapers can scratch your windshield.
Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes Don't pour hot water on your windshield, and avoid turning the heat on high as soon as you get in. This can cause chips to suddenly spread.
Change your wiper blades Wiper blades should be changed every 6–12 months, or more often if you drive in the cold a lot.
Turn off Air Recirculation When defrosting your windshield it is important to turn off air recirculation because it allows your car to pull in fresh, drier air from outside, which is more effective at removing moisture from the windshield and preventing fogging compared to recirculating the potentially humid air already inside the car cabin.
Use a Solution of Isopropyl Alcohol and Water to De-ice your Windshield: Combine two parts 70% isopropyl alcohol and one part water in a spray bottle. Since this liquid has a freezing point of 5 degrees—as opposed to 32 degrees for water, applying this solution to your icy windshield can melt ice quickly.
Here's to a new year with a clear windshield that helps you find your way with ease!
