The Experience Behind the Cornerstone Standard
Long before there was a Cornerstone Auto Glass, Lil’ John Novak was learning the auto glass trade firsthand. Today, he is a father of five and has a strong love for Colorado, skiing, and the local community. When he’s not on the slopes or fixing glass, he’s out drag racing.
After years working in the industry, John knew the kind of work he wanted to put his name behind. He also knew he didn’t want to be told to rush an installation or cut corners when doing so could compromise the quality of the job.
So in 2001, he started Cornerstone Auto Glass.
The goal wasn’t simply to open another auto glass shop. It was to create a place where craftsmen could take the time to do the work correctly, use quality materials and proven procedures, and put safety ahead of getting to the next vehicle as quickly as possible.
More than two decades later, Master Auto Glass Craftsman John remains closely involved in the work and in training Cornerstone’s technicians. Every technician is individually AGSC- and Sika-certified, but certification is only part of their development. John’s goal is to pass along the judgment and hands-on knowledge that come from decades in the trade.
That’s why training the next generation has become such an important part of what comes next.

Every Cornerstone craftsman is individually AGSC- and Sika-certified through testing. Cornerstone is also an AGSC member, with our procedures and workmanship subjected to the organization’s detailed membership audit. During that process, John’s work was recognized as an example of the standards being evaluated.
Knowing how to install a windshield is one thing. Knowing why each step matters takes experience.
That’s one reason Cornerstone uses two-person installation teams. Working together gives our craftsmen greater control during placement, but it also puts newer technicians beside experienced auto glass professionals who can teach things that are difficult to learn from a manual.
What should you notice when the old glass comes out? What does a problem beneath it look like? When does something simply not seem right? What small details separate an acceptable installation from one that meets the Cornerstone standard?
Those lessons accumulate over years in the trade. And if they’re never taught to someone else, eventually they’re lost. We don’t want that to happen.
Cornerstone is working to develop craftsmen who understand not only how to complete the work, but why it should be done a certain way. As vehicles and technology continue to change, the next generation will add its own knowledge to that foundation and eventually pass it forward again.
